This section deals only with Czech Railways. For other world railways in the world go to the homepage by clicking on menu on left. For the Bus Museum click on menu on left.

Because of the vastness of the subject this section has been totally redesigned. It is laid out by motive power and branch. The ideal is to have every active Czech steam engine and every branch but that could take decades. The menu is such that it should be possible to access any particular motive power or if your interest is in branches then likewise.

Also on the menu are Céske Dráhy, JLV and the Pendolino. This main page also contains the latest relevant Céske Dráhy news as well as brief descriptions of the latest articles.

2012 NEWS

Mladějov Industrial Railway and Museum

On August 22, 2012 I was fortunate enough to visit the Mladějov Industrial Railway and Museum at Mladějov near Ceska Trebova and served by line 017 of Czech Railways. The railway is a gem and well worth a visit. I took the following photographs on a perfect day. Equally the transport museum is a gem.

In 1904, Gerhard Mauve had built four ovens for burning fireclay in Mladějov and gradually bought all the coal and fireclay mines from Anenská Studánka to Březina. At that time he bought the mine Wenzel Theodor in Hřebeč from the Gbr. Steinbrecher company and he supplemented mining coal with mining fireclay. The material was driven to the ovens in Mladějov by waggons. However, as it made the production expensive the new ovens were built right in Hřebeč.

The building of the railway was finished in 1920, however, the approval of its building by the Czechoslovak supervisory bodies was done only in 1924 after much bickering. The transport was carried by specially adjusted locomotives produced in the Linec company of Krauss. Due to ever rising need of electricity a steam power station was established in Mladějov with specially adapted fireboxes for burning the local chalk coal; similarly the ovens in narrow-gauge locomotives were adapted.

The 11 km-long narrow-gauge railway, the Mladjovská was built at the end of the first world war with a gauge of 600 mm to transport lupku, of fireclay production and local coal. It served its purpose until the abolition of mines and the conclusion of the šamotky in 1991. Throughout the operation, it was served by mainly steam locomotives, and today the original No. 1 is active. 6 km of the 11 km has been restored and is operational and the remainder has track laid and is in the process of being refurbished and hopefully the entire 11 km will be operational in 2013.

2012 Train Operation Days

Trains operate in 2012 on Saturday, 1 and 15. Departures of the trains from Mladějova in Moravia at 0915, 1130, 1350 and 1615.
