I was fortunate to be the guest of the A.U.A.R on the inaugural run with their steam locomotive 1910 Beyer Peacock No. 120. This machine is in fantastic condition as are the coaches they have restored and the set are a match for anwyhere in the world. Following photos were taken on the trip from Montevideo to Victor Sudriers in November 2007 and subsequent photos at the AFE depot

The Project called Steam Trains is a direct investment of the Asociación Uruguaya Amigos del Riel called A.U.A.R. and born as response to an increasing and ineluctable need to make a concrete contribution to the recovery of Uruuguayan historical - cultural patrimony, recreating the legendary railway tradition of Uruguay, by means of reactivating running of old steam trains in Uuruguay.

The project started through recovery of railway material in disuse contributed by the Government Railroad Administration called A.F.E., consisting of a locomotive to steam, two passenger coaches and an auxiliary coach. The locomotive Beyer Peacock 120 of the year 1910 within a power of 900HP engine, English origin was fully restored in the workshops.

In the restoration of the passenger coaches they emphasized minimal details, preserving outside characteristics. Today wax and black illuminates proudly its colors, with some touches in green inside the cabin.

Both coaches Allan carry 192 passengers. Originally from Holland in 1952, they have been restored to new condition in its entirety. With this steam train, the Asociation offers passenger the unforgettable experience to recreate the adventure that signifies the way of travelling of the past. The inside shows full comfort, with appliances of bronze, elegant lights, the classic interior modified and reformed with noble woods, tables of cedar with center in wood root of erable green color, air conditioning, equipment of functional music and the windows provided with armored fixed glasses. Each coach offer two comfortable bathrooms with air extractors. There is a personalized attention on board that provides a high level service.
